Le nubi argentate sulla cima della montagna Isabel de Torres, l’altissima montagna alle spalle della città di Puerto Plata, sono all’origine del nome della città. Attualmente i turisti possono fare un giro in teleferico fino ad arrivare alla cima della montagna e così visitare i giardini botanici e godere delle panoramiche viste del porto della città. La città vanta la maggior presenza di case in stile vittoriano del XIX secolo di tutti i Caraibi. Anche la fortezza di San Felipe, che risale al 1577, é tra le strutture militari del periodo coloniale più antiche della regione. Puerto Plata é la provincia in cui si trovano i resti dei primi insediamenti europei nelle Americhe. Le tre caravelle dell’ammiraglio Cristoforo Colombo sbarcarono qui nel 1492 e le fu dato il nome di La Isabella.
Saltos de Damajagua
Saltos de Damajagua. It takes an hour to climb the mountain, to then jump and slide down along the 27 waterfalls, or hop up to the first seven falls for a brief adventure. Accompanied by local guides, this is an experience suitable for those who enjoy a good physical shape. The place is about half an hour drive from Puerto Plata.
Zip Line Monkey Jungle
Zip Line Monkey Jungle is located between the towns of Sosua and Cabarete, 9 km from the coastal road in the resort El Choco. This excursion is suitable for all ages and is open 364 days a year. In a vast territory, where animals of local farm graze freely, the seven ACCT certified lines of Zip Line allow lucky users to see the area from above. There is a hole in the ground, where one jumps at the end of a breathtaking tour. A large botanical garden, where over 40 monkeys live in freedom, allows visitors to experience the life surrounded by nature of the Dominican Republic. Please note that all proceeds are donated to the management of the clinic that provides free medical care to poor people.
Puerto Plata
- Puerto plata. Silver clouds crowd up on the top of Isabel de Torres, a tall mountain behind the city of Puerto Plata, which is at the origin of the name of the city. Currently, tourists can take a cable car ride up to the top of the mountain and visit the botanical gardens, enjoy the panoramic views of the harbor. The city boasts the largest number of Victorian-style houses of the nineteenth century in the entire Caribbean region. Even the fortress of San Felipe, which dates back to 1577, is one of the military structures of the colonial period, the oldest in the region. Puerto Plata is the province where remains of the first European settlements in the Americas have been found. The three ships of the Admiral Christopher Columbus landed here in 1492, and the place was given the name of La Isabella
Monkey Gun Range
Monkey Gun Range, located 5 minutes from the Clubhouse Monkey Jungle, is in a 7-station shooting polygon with an adjacent offensive / defensive course. Both instructors are Certified Firearms Instructor (CFI) and 12 gauge Mossberg shotguns and 9 mm semiautomatic Bersa are used at this course.
