First of all, the beaches. A trip to the Dominican Republic means sea and fantastic beaches, high palm-trees, transparent water with a wide variety of colorful fish. From Boca Chica to Playa Grande, from Bayahibe to Punta Cana or from Playa Alicia to Isla Saona, you can be sure to find your corner of paradise. The North coast has some of the most beautiful beaches in the Dominican Republic:
Playa Sosua
Playa Sosua, which is formed along a splendid semi-circular bay, has characteristic lush nature that reaches the very beach and crystal clear sea with infinite shades of blue. All of that colored and livened by typical local huts that offer lobsters and fresh fish right on the seashore, Caribbean music and local handicrafts.
Playa Alicia
Playa Alicia is a new beach of Sosua. Created by the sea within the last 5 years, it is a small corner of paradise that offers very fine sand, blue sea, privacy and a small restaurant for the most demanding tourists. Here you can mostly find foreign tourists who prefer staying quietly at the sea without being surrounded by typical local sellers.
Playa Encuentro
Playa Encuentro is one of the places preferred by sport fans, offering hundreds of meters of uncontaminated beach, lush forests and shallow water, which allows even beginners to ride the waves of the ocean. It’s a point of meeting for experienced surfers and kids from all over the world, who long for a genuine contact with the nature, the sea and surfing.
Playa Grande
Playa Diamante
Playa Dorada
Playa Cabarete
Playa Cabarete. In the 80s it was nothing more than a place to rest for residents of Moca and Santiago, then a group of foreigners has discovered that the Cabarete bay offered perfect conditions for windsurfing, and today the city attracts lovers of sports and sea from all over the world. Apart from windsurfing competitions for professionals and amateurs, Cabarete is also a perfect place for kiteboarding fans, and all other outdoor sports. Even if you are not a fan of any sports activities and wish to sunbath in peace, you will not be deluded by this place.
Punta Rusia
The Dominican Septentrional cordillera offers a natural barrier that stops most clouds, which implies less than 30 days of rain a year in Punta Rucia that benefits from an exceptional weather throughout the year. Well sheltered between the wild and desert point of Punta Buren in the north and the Mangrove swamps in the West, the bay of Punta Rucia (sometimes written Punta Rusia with an S) has kept all its authenticity. The beach of Ensenada and mythical Cayo Arena make this destination very appreciated and it is not a coincidence if Dominicans particularly appreciate this wild region. The bay is scattered with coral reefs and shallow water which limits navigation and allows it to preserve all its peace and the beauty of its breathtaking sunsets.
Playa Rincon
Playa Rincon is one of ten most beautiful bays in the world and thereby is considered as a must-see place. It takes about two hours in a car to reach it from Puerto Plata. On the way one can see fields of rice and plantations of coconut palms that are truly spectacular, especially appreciated by photography lovers. Once you arrive to the beach, you find there a tropical forest that goes down from the hill slopes to the sea and is absolutely spectacular. Mangroves meet the sea, creating perfect conditions for a wide variety of fish. You can dine on the beach, ordering yourself some fresh fish that will be minute-made right in front of you.
